Post up some quality (generally mass produced) cars that you haven’t seen in quite some time.

I present a stock Em1 and stock g35

Two years ago my neighbors got rid of their Volvo 240 and I legitimately haven’t seen one since. Older Volvos are becoming rare things, with only the “collectible” ones surviving. I’ve seen half a dozen 850Rs in the same time frame, for example.

These were ridiculously reliable (virtually unkillable), but I’m guessing rust got to them.

Friend of mine wrecked one by driving it straight into a parked semi trailer. Turbo, no less.

When was the last time anyone saw a Chevy Beretta?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:00 |

That sucks, the MX-6 was a very nice car. It’s what turned me on to Mazda.

While I lived in Serbia, 300M cost as much as a BMW 5 series. Then I moved here, and realized how cheap they were. Can’t remember last time I saw one.

First-gen Chevrolet Luminas.

I saw a Toyota Starlet walking home in SF last night. I haven’t seen one of those since at least the 80s that I can recall.
I was nice, but not as nice as this one.

I meant the car, not the van. But come to think of it, those dustbuster spaceships were kinda cool. Such a clean, simple, practical design.

The Chevy Lumina. All of the generations. They made so many.

Starion, bitches!
Also, this post made me think of a sweet old Kinks song, so here:

The Firefly/Metro used to be everywhere where I live, now they’ve disappeared.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:30 |

A neighbor had one growing up, they got rid of it in the mid ‘90s, and that’s the last one I’ve ever seen.

Drove an MX-3 for part of High School. Had a lot of fun in that car... Had the 1.8L V6, repainted in the same red it came with but with a bit of fine gold dust, man did that thing sparkle in the sun.. No real problems either except the distributor that kept going out - still have a spare in my garage almost 20 years later. Then it got rear ended by a Yukon Denali and it bent the frame so it was totalled by the insurance company.

Gf had one, transmission went. Now drives a RX350
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:50 |

Not a quality motor, but it’s certainly conspicuous by its absense.

When was the last time you heard Red Barchetta?
![]() 02/23/2016 at 19:54 |

No way, transmission went on a 90's/2000's Chrysler product?? Say it isn’t so?

I actually saw one of these a couple days ago. But, it made me go, “holy shit, an Amigo. When was the last time I saw an Amigo?”

There are a couple that still survive here.

Saw one of these in Hillsdale, MI the Summer before last. Thought it was an R32 at first.

Saw a mint 300M about a week ago. Couldn’t believe how clean it was.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 20:07 |

Now just imagine if it had a 3800SC under the hood...
![]() 02/23/2016 at 20:08 |

There’s a stock EM1 here. Red, super clean. All of the others are at least lowered, though.

The 929 was one sweet-ass Mazda flagship luxury car.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 20:09 |

There are a coupe still kicking around here, but I don’t see them often.

I saw a Concorde a week ago too - looked brand new. It was in Denver, but it had Missouri tags.

I see these once in a while. It usually takes a minute to sink in, followed by “I want one for absolutely no good reason.”
![]() 02/23/2016 at 20:56 |

I saw a stock IS300 the other day. Pretty sure the driver thought I was crazy the way I stared at it.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 20:57 |

Was totally gonna say the same thing. One of my favorite Mazdas ever. I wish to own one someday but they are really disappearing fast.

Where have all the Intrepids gone?
I assume the answer is rust.

My Grandmother had a mint ‘99 LTZ. I hated that car.

There is one that parks outside a local McDonalds that used to be a hangout in highschool for me (must be an employee’s). I might be thinking of that one, but these are kinda common. Greater Toronto Area.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:48 |
|
Very common here. The G35's are all automatic. The Manual Em1s are driven by old men.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:48 |
|
They just sort of disappeared in Denver area...
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:48 |

Drove one of these in high school. It was amazing how bad of shape it was in but still running. The slipping tranny and leaking heads sorta killed it. A shop bought it off me and fixed it up, probably still on the road with 280k.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:50 |

When I was younger I wanted one of those so badly.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 21:52 |

My grandparents had a ‘94 Lumina until 2012 or 2013, when it went to the junkyard.

Never mind when the last time I saw a stock EG Civic was, I haven’t seen one period for a long time. Canadian winters have destroyed them. I would kill for a bone stock EG Civic though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 22:14 |

Haven’t seen one of these in forever. My parents used to have one in blue. I remember the dealer had a loaner in the color of the attached picture and it had tinted windows. I was always happy if we got that one when the car went in. Yellow hatchbacks are the coolest when you’re young.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 22:50 |

Try finding one of these. Even Google image search has a problem.

Last week on the radio - and I’m only in the car a few minutes a day. Limelight was on Q104.3 and then the RAT fought back with Red Barchetta. All on the .7 mile trip from the train to my house. It was glorious.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 23:31 |

That’s 90's Chevys in a nutshell. My second car in high school was a Cavalier that was total junk and nothing really worked right but it just kept going with hard driving and minimal maintenece. Luminas, Berettas, Cavaliers, Blazers, etc. would squeak, rattle, and smoke but just keep going.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 23:36 |

I still see stock EG Civics kicking around here in TX fairly often. Most are in pretty rough shape in the paint and interior departments, though.
![]() 02/23/2016 at 23:37 |

Awww YEAH! There is 104.3 The Hippo in santa cruz that plays classic rock. It’s awesome for Rush.

Nope. It was not. We love the guy, but he got mocked pretty good for that one after we found out he was ok.
![]() 02/24/2016 at 00:03 |

Not exactly... Greater Toronto Area. Alot of the G35 coupes have minor ‘upgrades’. Like modernized decks/speaker systems. I’ve seen quite a few civics.
Alot of modern modifications that are popular with people in my generation (i’m 19) are reversible. Like front lips and decks and springs.
So if you want an EM1 there are a ton on the market that have simple stuff like fog lights, coils, lips and rims. Nothing like riced to death that cannot be saved, those are often integras.

I’ve got an MX-3/Eunos 30x in my backyard if anyone wants it. Free to a good home.

I see one of those Colorado/Canyon Isuzus pretty often, but thats it.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 11:04 |

I see two teal EG coupes pretty often, on is spotless I mean prefect condition. The other is half gone, eaten by the rust monster. Strangely they car both driven by old men.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 11:06 |
|
I remember seeing one when they were new. I would have been like 12, or 13 at the time. I thought they were really cool. To bad they’re actually just slow cars that get poor fuel economy for what they car.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 11:09 |

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Lanos Sedan.

The old RX-7s are stored in garages. There is always a few listed on Cl but most of them are non running projects.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 13:07 |
|
they are a lot like opel gts, volvos and alfas, and z cars. if an owner has one running they probly have 5 in parts stashed in the garage.

Junk yard.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 10:18 |

What killed them all, was it just transmissions? Rust? Rapid depreciation to the point they were worth more in parts than in trade? All of the above? They sold over 500,000 of the second gen between 1998 and 2004 and I’ve hardly seen one on the road since 2008. They vanished fast.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 12:31 |
|
...too shitty to drive? It’s really probably mostly depreciation making it not worth keeping on the road. They were also terrible. A friend had one. It was awful. It was like driving a Panther, but FWD.
